Peony Birds 牡丹鳥 (1990)

Peony Birds, directed by Huang Yu-shan, is a multi-generational story about the relationship between a mother and a daughter, beginning when the daughter is a young child. Her parents’ relationship is turbulent but is disrupted one day when the father dies suddenly. The mother moves away from the countryside and becomes a career woman, in the backdrop of 1980s and 1990s Taipei. The daughter joins her in the workforce when she becomes an adult, but their relationship is far from perfect.
