Through a matrilocal arrangement, Black-Face moves into the family of Hsueh-Feng, a strong, resilient and independent woman running a family restaurant on her own. Black-Face brings his girlfriend, Zi-Hua into the marriage who gives birth to Lai-Chun in the family restaurant. Years later, Lai-Chun, like her mother, gets pregnant before marriage and is then abandoned by her boyfriend. The revelation of the premarital pregnancy stirs up a storm in the family. Lai-Chun receives support from Hsueh-Feng while scolded severely by her biological mother, Zi-Hua. Later, Black-Face dies of heart attack and his untimely death demolishes Hsueh-Feng seemingly strong appearance. Zihua, in the midst of the family tragedy, stands up to the mafia who regularly come to harass the restaurant.
